Hello 2020, Goodbye Beetle...

The Ball Drop has been Times Square’s most beloved tradition. Tiger Party couldn’t be more proud to be able to play a role in the NYE countdown event in the past 11 years. Last year, we designed a Hilton countdown clock to celebrate its 100th anniversary. This year, we designed a countdown clock for Volkswagen to pay tribute to their iconic Beetle car as Volkswagen is retiring the model in 2020 to make way for electric cars.

Although the Beetle has been appreciated by generations since its debut in 1930s, the model is taking a bow to make way for the electronic future and environmentalism. Saying goodbye to the classic compact car model, Volkswagen launched a new ad campaign, featuring a 90-second animation, “The Last Mile” on New Year’s eve. Tiger Party used our unique no latency guaranteed technology to synchronize Volkswagen’s countdown clock with the Ball Drop. The arrival of the new year reflected the ending of Beetle’s era.

“The Volkswagen Beetle was the great equalizer for society and culture at large. This isn’t one person’s goodbye or a company’s, it’s everyone’s goodbye.” said Leo Premutico, CCO at Johannes Leonardo. “Where one road ends, another begins.” With Tiger Party’s advanced technology, everyone at Times Square got to say farewell to this popular car and welcomed the arrival of 2020.
